I am trying to run simple applications of Swarm on Windows. I have
downloaded Java 2, Swarm 2-1-1 and some demos. I was able to run some
ready-made demos, such as sss.exe or arborgames.exe, but I don't know
how to use other applications which are in the form of .m and .h files
(for example, the code corresponding to F.Luna and B.Stefansson's
book). I tried to compile the main.m file with javac, and didn't see
anything happen: no class was created, no exe file, nothing. I would
like to get the big picture of what I should do to get started on
Swarm in Windows.
Also, it is said that Swarm works on Windows and under Java, but I
find it very hard to do anything, most of the examples and
explanations I see are given for Objective-C and Unix. I would like to
see really good information on what process to follow under Windows:
shall I use Java 2 ? Is there an objective C for Windows ? Do we need
to put Swarm and Java/ Objective C in the same folder ? What commands
do we type in the command prompt of cygwin when one wants to run a
small example ? Does the action come by running "java sthg" ? What's
this "Terminal" prompt that we see when one downloads Swarm ? What's
the difference with a classic "Command Prompt" ?
I believe that any missing in the questions that I am raising will
postpone greatly the development of Swarm in the community, as we are
not all supposed to be unix pros - it is already a lot of effort to
try to get used to java and swarm libraries. Incidentally, I read
about the visual swarm builder developped by Alessandro Perrone and
Marco Tenuti, and I would really happy to see it happen on PC...
Any help will be much appreciated,
