(1) the way to do this is to define a value space, like the space
for heat in the heatbugs program, and have the agents leave their
trail as values in that space. then paint that onto your raster.
(2) i don't know if there is a way to change the default
color that is produced by "erase" being sent to the raster.
i suppose you could do it the hard way by having another value
space with some value set (in conjunction with a colormap)
to paint the whole world that value/color, but that
sounds pretty kludgy, so lets hope there is a better way
to set the default background.
