[Swarm-Support] Full-time Computational Modeling and Analysis Position:

From: Rick Riolo
Subject: [Swarm-Support] Full-time Computational Modeling and Analysis Position: Research Computer Specialist.
Date: Sat, 20 Nov 2010 18:19:32 -0500

The Center for the Study of Complex Systems (cscs.umich.edu), in
collaboration with the Center for Social Epidemiology and Population Health
(www.sph.umich.edu/cseph), is seeking applicants for a Research Computer
Specialist for a computational modeling and analysis position as part of the
newly formed Network on Inequality, Complexity and Health program
(www.sitemaker.umich.edu/nich), an interdisciplinary group of researchers
at multiple Universities who together will establish the feasibility,
utility and importance of applying complex systems approaches to the study of
the causes of health disparities and related aspects of population health.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Network members to
design, develop and evaluate sophisticated computational models, carry out
computational experiments and analysis, and contribute to producing reports and
papers. The Research Computer Specialist will work at and closely with
members of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems at the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Applicants should have extensive experience in one or more of the
"systems science" approaches to understanding complex adaptive systems, e.g.,
(1)  individual- and agent-based modeling, (2) equation-based/systems dynamics
modeling and  (3) network analysis.

Strong candidates will be fluent in java, python, and other computer
languages on multiple OS platforms (linux, mac os and windows), as well as
experience with one or more common agent-based modeling systems
(e.g., AnyLogic, Repast, MetaABM, Netlogo, Mason), equation-based systems
dynamics modeling platforms (e.g., Stella, Berkeley Madonna, Matlab) and
network analysis and display packages (e.g., Pajak, UCINet, JUNG,
Igraph, R).

The ideal candidate should have, in addition to experience in computational and
quantitative modeling and analysis, some background and/or demonstrated
serious interest in the study of the complex determinants of health and
disparities in health as represented by work in Public Health, the Social or
Biological Sciences, or other areas of the Health Sciences.

This is a three-year, term-limited position, subject to performance reviews.

Interested applicants should apply through www.umjobs.org and send
their vita and a letter of interest to Rick Riolo at address@hidden
Please include names and contact information of at least three references.

All applications for this position must be received by December 9, 2010.
