libaa is the Ascii Art library, yes. Not sure what avifile wants with
that.
Does
ldconfig /usr/(local/)/bin/aviplay
show libaa, too?
If yes you are missing a library path. If not, you should try to remove
-laa from the avifile-config shell script.
