Hi Gerald,
I was trying to do the same think.  I gave up and decided to use
pdftotext (Part of the xpdf) to extract the text from the PDF ahead of
time.
I imported the text into a mysql database, and used that to do the
searches.

can*t seem to get a hold of the converted text inside the swf.
getTextSnapshot(); works with a quick Flash- made example, but not with
the
pdf2swf converted file.

We also would like to realize a search function but are totally stuck
at his
point!
