You should use pdf2swf. Better quality.

I would use an swfc script. I think it's much simpler, and you won't
have to do all those "find out ID using swfdump, replace that ID using
swfcombine" workarounds.
If you've got enough time, you may even want to browse a few
ActionScript tutorials, so you can do most of the animation logic using
Flash's action engine.
Concerning example scripts, I used to have a keyboard_viewer.sc file
here somewhere, but right now can't find it. (I'll keep digging)
