Also, embedding this swf from gif using swfc *doesn't* make it clickable.

2. "backgroundcolor" doesn't work, you probably meant "background"

Convert the gif to a SWF first:
    gif2swf image.gif -o image.swf
and then include the image as swf:
    .swf image "image.swf"

.flash name=clickable.swf version=6 backgroundcolor=#3300ff
