Hello,

I think that it is time for a new release. There is nothing urgent in
the TODO list, in my opinion (though it has inflated quite a bit...),
I already asked for a new release some time ago for the support of
new texinfo constructs and there are also new backends and a lot of
changes, including api breakages, but also better handling of texinfo
constructs and better compatibility with makeinfo. Also John asked for a
release to match the coming lilypond release and it looks like Reinhold
has no report anymore...

The next major thing to do before being able to replace makeinfo is to handle
info format. For that
1 it should be possible to use only node as elements
2 it should be possible to determine the out file during the last pass,
the output pass since the file length depend on the length of the
  formatted nodes
3 it should be possible to know at which position (byte, line) in the
output file an @-command occured, for the anchors and index
  formatting.

The 3rd item may require major changes in the API if formatting
functions are to report how many bytes and lines they appended and
prepended.

I don't have time currently to do the info backend, but, hopefully, once
it is done texi2html could be merged in texinfo itself, so this release
may be the last one as a separate project -- which would match well
with breaking the API severly for the byte-counting...

On that subject, if you know texi2html authors or you are a texi2html
author not willing to assign the copyright to the FSF, please tell it,
such that we can rewrite the corresponding code.
