I agree. The documentation implies that this only happens for --file,
although I agree it is desirable without --file as well, so I will
check that this happens and will see about updating the documentation.
(At the same time I will add the documentation for the feature I
recently added, which is to search the indices of a file if following
menus doesn't get anywhere. This was in the TODO file.)
