Details:

I'd like to be able to insert a spacer into bars, such that everything to the
left of the spacer is left-aligned, and everything to the right is
right-aligned.

For example, the input bar could be laid out like this:

[input_prompt] input_text --SPACER-- [hotlist]

(Where the hotlist is against the right edge of the screen)

At the moment, all I can manage is something that looks like this:

[input_prompt] input_text [hotlist] --EMPTY SPACE--

(Where hotlist constantly shifts as the content of input_text changes)
