Follow-up Comment #8, bug #35443 (project weechat):

but that has the following problem which is quite serious imo: if you run the
same weechat from terminals with different charsets, things will break
horribly. I don't see what's good about that. User can edit these files with
an editor that supports editing utf8 files!
