Shadowfury333: Where is the website. Are there renovations planned or is
Battle for Wesnoth extinct?
.
Elvish Pillager: Wesnoth is not extinct, but we sure need more members to find
these backup sites... I assume
that anyone who might be involved in renovating is working as quickly as is
practical. Have you checked IRC?
It would also be nice to get some developer opinions in here.
.
Scott: I sent dave a message via savannah to please put a note here - the
current news is a little self-evident.
address@hidden = me
.
Shadowfury333: I talked to Dave on the Wesnoth game server, he knows the site
is down, and I told him that I
made this.
.
MadMax: AFAIK, the server itself seems to be running, as I can make a
connection, but the data on the server
seems to have been deleted.
"ILLEGITIMUS NON CARBORUNDUM"
.
Shadowfury333: Weil, that could be caused by anyone. Hopefully the site is
being renovated and isn't hacked.
.
ettin: The administrator of wesnoth.org has been notified. We can't upload a
placeholder since it is removed
after ~5 minutes. We know nothing more.
.
Joshbosh321: My dad is a network administrator for rutgers. I asked him about
your problem and he says that
if you are running wesnoth.org as a virtual domain, then it is probably a
configuration error. If not, then could
Miyo have deleted the docroot by accident? More detailed info would be
appreciated.
.
Shadowfury333: Are you saying that Miyo deleted the pages? If so, then what
was if motive, I wonder. Unless,
of course, he deleted it after he left the community because he didn't want
the responsability of keeping them
.
Joshbosh321: I am saying nothing of the kind. It could be that Miyo tried to
transfer the server to someone
else, and messed up the configuration while doing it. He might have had the
account that he had the pages on
deleted if, like I said, wesnoth.org was a virtual domain. I highly doubt that
he did it on purpose - he helped to
create Wesnoth, after all!
.
Shadowfury333: I hope you are right. I also hope that the data gets recovered
soon.
.
ott: The server seems to be running apache-1.3.33 which was released
28-Oct-2004,
so no obvious security problems there. Maybe phpBB was hacked -- during 2004
there were lots of holes in that application (which runs/ran the forum). See
http://search.securityfocus.com/cgi-bin/swsearch/swish.cgi?query=phpBB&metaname=alldoc
More likely something has gone wrong with a server move.
There is nothing obviously wrong with DNS, and for the record
www.wesnoth.org is currently (20041114) at IP address 212.85.150.6.
.
MadMax: I do not believe Miyo hacked the site. But I do believe it was hacked.
How come the placeholder was
removed after 5 minutes like ettin said? A network problem shouldn't cause
that. I am thinking right now that
it is the same person who is spamming the wiki (see WikiSpammerGoAway ).
"ILLEGITIMUS NON CARBORUNDUM"
.
AT: This has nothing to do with Miyo. Devs currently can't reach the hosting
guy, and arn't sure what's going on.
Disclaimer: I'm kinda out of the loop, since I'm currently really busy, but
for now, assume I'm right.
.
Shadowfury333: Thank goodness one of the devs found us, too bad we get no news
from it.
.
Shadow: Nice to see that wesnoth is not death.
.
Shadowfury333: Don't you mean that Wesnoth isn't dead. Wesnoth was never death
.
Shadow: In german I wouldn´t have made this mistake but I see was understood
.
AT: Yup; the latest word is its being fixed; was due to the migration of a
fileserver. Expect it up when its fixed;
IIRWID, or whatever, Miyo would say:-) Also, am I the only one who can't seem
to get the Wiki to box my text? :-P
.
Joshbosh321: Just add a space at the beginning of every line. I did it for
you here
.
dms: Thanks for the update AT
.
Circon: Nice to know something's happening. Well, now I won't have to catch up
on reading the forums ;)
.
eugenelim: Since the website appears to be up, can someone link
wiki.wesnoth.org to wesnoth.slack.it? So other people
can find these news
.
ryn: changelog.wesnoth.org still appears to be down :(
.
Joshbosh321: Use the real link:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/wesnoth/wesnoth/changelog?rev=HEAD
changelog.wesnoth.org is just easier to remember, so they linked to it
.
