I get it. *I* don't personally find a good reason to make an option. For this
issue, making this program Wget1-compatible is the best (and probably the
easiest).
But you don't mean that *every* behavior should be the same to Wget1, right?
For instance, on Wget1, local file is not handled as HTML file when HTTP 304 is
returned from the server. I think this Wget2's behavior (not what I submitted
above) makes more sense than Wget1 and my recent proposal
<https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?53818> is to **make Wget1** compatible with
Wget2.
