Hi Christian,

http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/GUIFonts summarizes what we're
currently using.

In short, for the languages that are already supported:

Bengali:   freefont. Alternative said to be MuktiNarrow from
                     ttf-bengali-fonts
Gujarati:  freefont. Alternative in ttf-gujarati-fonts?
Hindi:     freefont. Alternative said to be Gargi_1.7 from
          ttf-devanagari-fonts
Malayalam: Rachana_w01.otf. Not really confirmed to be OK

What is the issue faced by the Malayalam Rachana_w01.otf fonts ?. I see the status on http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/GUIFonts
as ' Rachana_w01.otf is used. Still needs confirmation by translator'.

Could you kindly update us on this ?
