I think I may have been looking at the savannah repository wrong, it doesn't look like there are any flags set at all. I think I was actually looking at my local copy that I checked out with -kb while I was troubleshooting this. Still, I wonder if there's any harm in tagging the binaries (bmp, bm, xpm, wav, etc) with -kb on savannah. I wouldn't want to tag any ascii files though. Tim, thoughts?

I'm by no means a CVS expert, but for the CVS repository I use to store all my personal projects, I usually add in binary files by using the -kb option when initially adding them. If you accidentally add a binary file without that option, you can use the admin command with -kb to change it.

I don't think that you want to have everything checked in as binaries, because from what I understand, binary files aren't kept as diffs, which makes going back to prior versions either impossible, or less efficent. I don't remember which for sure.

Ok, questions about our CVS repository...

Are the files currently tagged with any particular keyword substitution? I thought I checked correctly and they all seemed to be tagged as binary (-kb). But when I check anything out it all comes across as ascii. This has been corrupting the binaries (like the bitmaps for winboard), causing the resource compiler to fail. Now experimenting with Eclipse, which has nice CVS integration, I hadn't been able to figure out why everything was seen as ascii. In the process I somewhat unintentially changed the substitution mode for one bitmap in the winboard directory. How do you or how should we be checking things out, forcing binary mode? If nothing is currently tagged for any particular mode, should we? Or should it all be controlled at the client end, using a cvswrappers file?

Sorry for my confusion, if I'm just missing something very fundamental about CVS I apologize.

Mark
