I agree the WinBoard startup dialog is nasty, and both WinBoard and
xboard should be reorganized so that you can switch between all the
different modes, change engines, etc., at runtime from the normal
menus.  The startup dialog was an attempt to be more user-friendly than
xboard is without doing that big a reorganization.  It was successful
at that, I think, but still not a good thing.
