Hi,

there's a new development version of XForms, 1.3.0

http://download-mirror.savannah.gnu.org/releases/xforms/development/1.3/xforms-1.3.0.tar.gz

As you wilkl remember there were problems on some new systems
when using Gnome - already the demo programs exited immediately
after having been started.

With some helpful hints from the Gnome developers (who rightly
claimed that they're not responsible) I now hope to habe tracked
down the problem. First of all, it wasn't a Gnome issue but re-
lated to IBus, an input method framework for Linux, enabled py
default under newer Gnome versions. I found that the problem went
away when either killing the ibus-x11 daemon or resetting the
XMODIFIERS environment variable (per default set to '@im=ibus')
on the system where I had observed the effect. On the other hand
starting the IBus daemon and setting XMODIFIERS to '@im=ibus' on
a non-Gnome system resulted in the problem appearing also on
systems where it previously haddn't been visible.

But it also wasn't the fault of IBus but some issue in the XForms
library itself - while support for input methods was built in, it
wasn't done 100% correct and needed some tweaking. The quick fix
I had added (dropping one unexpected event) is now again removed
since it doesn't seems to be needed anymore.

Since I haven't done anything with input methods etc. before
I'm not sure if I got it right on the first time round and
thus woyld like to have you do some testing before I push it
into the "official" branch. Thus I created the above develop-
ment version and would like to ask you to check it out. And,
please let me know if you did so - a simple "works now" or
"you're stupid, try again" will suffice - I just need to know
if it's been tested, If the tests were successful I'll move it
over into the stable branch.

Thank you and best regards, Jens
