Bryn, something's definitely wrong on your side.
/usr/local/lib should be a directory containing a symlink called
libhamlib-1.1.3.so.0
linked to libhamlib-1.1.3.so.0.0.0
You could try a 'make uninstall; make install' as root.
Also, add /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig.

The 0.6.1 rpm you mean? You are much better off trying 0.7rc1. It is almost
