Of course, you can combine the two.  I keep the majority of my log in a
PostgreSQL database, for which I have written a few command-line
utilties.  I use XLog for day-to-day logging (and tlf for contesting),
and periodically export to ADIF and import into my database.  Other
utilities hand LOTW export and import, callsign lookups, and marking
QSLs sent and received.  I suppose someday I should add a GUI to it, but
for now, this works.
