Dear All,
In my capacity as member of the education board of the Royal
Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists and as an Examiner
in Neuroradiology, I am looking into setting up an electronic
examination system for the Part II examinations in Radiodiagnosis.
What this currently consists of is a series of oral examinations,
during which doctors training in the specialty of Radiology are shown
a variety of cases (currently on x-ray film) from which they must find
and derive a diagnosis.
As you know, the practice of radiology is becoming film-less and for
many reasons we are needing to progress to an electronic film-less
form of examination.
We have been looking at several dicom viewers, that perhaps maybe
modified into an examination platform. The way this has been envisaged
is to have a single computer with dual monitors (one for the candidate
and the other for the examiner) and two mice. I have attached a very
basic concept diagram below. The dicom viewer required must be basic,
intuitive with limited features that can be controlled by two
individuals. The examiner will need to regulate the cases reviewed by
the trainee.
Aeskulap has been identified by many as a possible system that perhaps
could be modified and built into such a platform. Perhaps a
cooperative venture between Aeskulap and the RANZCR is a possibility.
We are in the process of scoping the project with respect to a time-
frame and resource requirement.
I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this and perhaps
whether Aeskulap would like to explore this further.
Many thanks for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Mike Bynevelt BHB MBChB FRANZCR
