Probably because it depends on the AUCTeX installation?

This is very, very wrong. Please don't do that. AUCTeX, as stated in
the documentation, activates itself.

Again, all of the above stuff is very, very, wrong. AUCTeX has its
own ways of dealing with PDF files.
