Yes, texlive from standard repository is outdated. Texlive 2009 is in the fedorapeople repo: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/TeXLive. Which can be added by typing: # rpm -i http://jnovy.fedorapeople.org/texlive/texlive-f12-release-2009-0.3.fc12.noarch.rpm
But texlive 2007 will remain in the dependencies of emacs-auctex. Thus it is maybe the best way to install texlive2009 via yum and then compile auctex from source.
