Hello,

Regis and me filmed you in Sophia Antipolis on May 5th 2008, and we have
now put the video Ogg/Theora+Vorbis and audio only (Ogg/Vorbis) files
online, as well as some pictures.

FYI your conference was streamed live in Ogg/Theora format, and, in
addition to the people in the amphitheater, around 65 people followed it
from the Internet and chatted on a dedicated IRC channel. Too bad you
didn't accept more questions from them, but we know you were tired...

You can view the conference again from :

   http://stream.unice.fr/polytech/rms20080505/

Viewing it from this page requires Java because of the Free Cortado
applet, but if you don't use Java you can instead (or in addition to)
download the video+audio and the audio only files from the very same
page. I've also put some pictures, also available from the same page.

The video+audio file is around 1.3 GB long, and streaming view requires
around 1.2 Mbits/s of bandwidth at peaks so depending on your available
bandwidth you may prefer to download the file for later view. The audio
only file is around 50 MB long, and requires around 66 Kbits/s of bandwidth.

We also have the original video in the DV format, in case you want it
just ask (beware, it's around 30 GB !)

Compared to when you were angry about us in 2004 because of the use or
Real products, you'll be glad to learn that in the meantime we have
entirely conceived and developped the autonomous streaming and recording
studio we used, named Boxtream (info and download from
http://boxtream.unice.fr) which is Free Software (GNU GPL 3) using only
documented hardware or hardware which doesn't need any proprietary driver.

For more than a year and a half now, the Medicine School of Nice streams
something about 50 hours a week of live courses in the Ogg/Theora format
for distance learning students, making this probably the biggest volume
end-to-end entirely Free streaming solution in, at least, higher French
education : all software used from the encoding backends and servers to
the clients is Free Software. Unfortunately IMHO the content itself is
not publicly available but it's a different problem...

bye

Jerome Alet
