a2ps 4.10.1: formfeeds in text files under certain conditions result in blank pages

I'm converting&printing a textfile with formfeeds to PostScript by a2ps.
The file is preprocessed by my program and --lines-per-page
option is used to tell a2ps the largest page length.
(It's a report, so all pages have the same page length).

Formfeed results in an empty (blank) page between two report pages.
Short of pre-processing my source file to remove formfeeds is there any
way to get a2ps into a tree saving move? man page does not mention any.
Neither does info file.
