I use 0.9.6b, with it everything goes like a dream. Possibly you will
have to send bug-report to openssl developers. Stdin has always been
a normal input for any UNIX program.

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this. I will try to install version
0.9.7c of openssl, however I'll not be able to do this until this
weekend. Anyway, I'll keep you informed.
