Actually, git's workflow is tuned to work in different branches which
is unusual for SVN users. And as it's almost 2020 there is a git
subtree feature. Also there is --depth for those who don't like to
keep the whole history.
Having said that, I'm sure that nobody should force anybody to use
anything. It's very easy to make a personal git mirror of SVN
repository and I'm doing it quite often.
