Oh my!    FWIW in 1955 I emigrated from the UK to Canada.
My first job was as a clerk with Underwood Typewriter.
But during my lunch 1/2 hour I had to learn how to use an Olivetti Underwood Sundstrand adding machine.
In order to add up a pile of invoices….. look at the invoice for the amount which I would “blindly” punch into the adding machine.

I wrote Hot Footer in 2004 and have been using almost daily since
then. I was sick and tired of playing with the paper tapes generated
by tape calculators and decided a virtual tape (from which I could
copy and paste) was needed.

Now after almost twenty years, I've released it under the GNU Public
License.

For those born after the computer revolution, a tape calculator is a
desktop mechanical appliance that printed a log of your calculations to
a roll of paper tape. Mine had an electric motor so that having
entered a number all I did was hit (tapping didn't show enough
strength) the plus key.  My Grandfather's had a twelve inch long lever
that one pulled for each entry.
