Dear Sir/Madam, I'm trying to install binutils-2.18, in my view this should not pose any problem. However, configure produces a makefile, that is something but it is not enough. Make simply gives up. I'm using SUSE Linux 8.0 I have a directory ~binutils-2.18, the software resides there and a build directory ~binutils.build. From this directory I do: ../binutils-2.18/configure A makefile is producced. I enclose the following files: 1 Output of make: make.log.gz 2 Logfile of configure: config.log.gz 3 config.status config.status.gz 4 Makefile Makefile.gz Finally info about gcc: gcc (GCC) 4.2.4 Copyright (C) 2007 Free Software Foundation, Inc. This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. I would be very happy if you could give me a hint how to proceed. I also hope I'm not overasking you but I do not know how to carry on. I hope to receive a reaction from you anyway Many thanks Kind regards, Wim Eijsenga
