This bug has also been reported in launchpad
:https://bugs.launchpad.net/gcc-arm-embedded/+bug/1421389 in 2015. Talk was
made of forwarding a similar patch to the one in this bug report to bin utils.
However I see no evidence of a patch ever being applied to the bin utils source
tree. The fault is still present in 2.29 head.
