Sorry, I am not quite sure what to do with these files.

I tried this:

  % ar  --plugin=/usr/lib64/bfd-plugins/liblto_plugin.so -M
  AR >open -AbO.a
  AR >save
  AR >end

There were no error messages about missing plugins.  Note - this was with the
latest version of ar built from today's mainline binutils sources.  When I used
the system version of ar, I did get the error message:

  % /usr/bin/ar --plugin=/usr/lib64/bfd-plugins/liblto_plugin.so -M
  AR >open -AbO.a
  AR >save
  /usr/bin/ar: -AbO.a(t.o): plugin needed to handle lto object
  AR >end
