Commit 48e3e6aec8a4 added a check that the size in the archive header matches
actual file size.  The idea was to protect users who otherwise might run into
linker misbehaviour when the archive symbol table doesn't match object files. 
The intent was *not* to break "ar r" but that is what the patch does.  Oops.
