Whilst this is obviously a bug in the linker, without knowing more about what
you were doing, it is going to be impossible to determine the cause of this
problem.

Using dmesg does not really help here, as it does not provide details about
where in the linker the problem is occurring.

The 2.34 release of the binutils is quite old now. Are you able to update to a
newer version ? (Note - updating gcc does not necessarily update the binutils
as well).
Alternatively you could try downloading the binutils sources and creating your
own linker.
