Right, the *checksum values* would not change, but currently,
these tools always print the "*" marker with an explicit -b:
$ :|sha1sum -b
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709 *-
so I'm afraid we'll have to retain that behavior.
