There are several options that do not have short option equivalents
(beside --quiet, these are --force-local,--no-absolute-filenames,
--no-preserve-owner,--only-verify-crc,--sparse,--version). The reason
for these options to use only long option names is that they represent
GNU extensions and as such they do not have equivalents in 'standard' cpio
implementations.
However, in my opinion, as long as a short option equivalent does not
conflict with any existing cpio implementation, it is quite OK to use
it. So, I'll consider including the proposed -q equivalent into the next
release.
