Not true -- the test suite (which we run every night on a bunch of
different platforms) tests it. Unfortunately, the one test that would
have detected the reported bug had been perverted to check for the buggy
behavior (it noted it as a bug but did not have a prominent FIXCVS
comment to indicate that it needed to be fixed).
