Just for the directory where it first becomes empty; after that it uses
Emptydir.

Before this change was made (when the parent directories were all mapped
to Emptydir as you desire), there were constant complaints from people
who were surprised that the parent directories did not map to the
obvious repository directories. Since then change was made, there have
been very few complaints so I must conclude that you're in the minority.
