format failure on diff --side-by-side

Hi,

the attached files produce different output when run within cvs or  with diff 
standalone. It appears that cvs has problems with wide chars in the 
source-files:

The applied command was:

diff -N --side-by-side -t -W100 base.cpp head.cpp
