I have no fundamental objection to such a change. However, I suspect it
may give grief to some of the GUI wrappers that live on top of cvs.

Or, were you also planning to support an option that could be added to
reinstate the current output as well? 

Note: I seem to recall seeing some GUI or other wrapper around cvs that
used a command like

    cvs -q log -R -r9999.9999.9999

to get a list of all of the ,v files relating to a particular module. 
(Sadly, I am not able to recall where I saw it used.)

I suppose those kind of applications could be rewritten using `cvs ls',
but I suspect that some adjustment to `cvs ls' may need to be done to
allow for listing files in the Attic...
