1.4-rc1 looks good.
Thanks for the "C99" fixes, it now compiles OOTB on Cygwin.
A note on the documentation changes:
NOTE! Try the "--direct" option first. If direct disc access is not
available in your system, try raw devices.
AFIAK, "--direct" makes also sense for raw devices to bypass read ahead.
This is probably recommended in case of read errors, I'm not sure.
