Is there an existing script that can correct the corrupted lines or another easy way to restore as much of the log file as possible? Google hasn't been particularly helpful.
Sorry but I don't know of any script able to repair random corruption in the logfile.
I would also be interested in any suggestions about what went wrong. Is a cifs share the wrong place to be storing a ddrescue log file?
I don't exactly know what is a "cifs share", but given the (lack of) reliability of Microsoft filesystems and that many Google results for "cifs share" are about "problems with a cifs share", it doesn't seem reliable enough for a logfile.
