Hi Antonio!

Here is the current description of --change-types in the manual:
[...]
Would you change anything in it?

No, I like the description as it is. The only thing I personally don't fully understand is the "(*note Logfile Structure::)". I mean, obviously it refers to the info page to ddrescue, but I don't think I would have guessed that, had I not read the info page before. IS that some type of standardized notation I'm not aware of?

Altogether while I can't come up with any scenario where one would do
that, your solution is suited for both simple and obscure cases. So
the worst that could happen is that this advanced feature might never
get used.

This is the only type-changing feature of ddrescuelog, so I guess it
will be used by anybody needing to change types. :-)

Right :-)

What I meant was that this feature will probably be used with simple translation rules most of the time, possibly only changing one type into one other type. Differently put, the tool may be more powerful than its users. It's no real problem, though, as simple use cases are possible and easily accessible just as well, especially with <new_types> being repeated as often as necessary.

block size for ddrescue is 512 byte by default whereas it's
4096 byte for ddrescuelog.

AFAIK there is no value
which is a good default for them both.

I would use 512 byte for both. After all, file system cluster sizes may vary anyway. It's no big deal, however, so feel free to leave it as it is. Users should check the man page and not rely on default values anyway.

Bye, Burkart
