I supposed you were editing the logfile. What you report is a different problem.
As Burkart already advised you, don't put too much faith in the rescued image.
Ddrescue should never write a corrupt logfile. Do you have any idea of what could happen here? Maybe the logfile was been written to another USB drive that got affected by the failure of the input drive?
