What I've ended up doing was duplicating the code for the -O /
--reopen-on-error facility as -X --exit-on-error, right now if
the same condition comes up I just raise a SIGINT which has the
desired result. There might be a more graceful way out
( Antonio? ) but it does the trick for now.
