Can you give the command a different starting point -say, use ddrescue -i
6Mb - and does that work? Then, if it does work, you can do a final pass
using --reverse that will read the remainder.
However, if the disk has been formatted, the data is truly gone. The
erasing system in rewritable optical media really does erase the data, at
least, beyond anything that a domestic reader can do.
