There are already examples in the online manual[1] and the ftp sites of
several projects, including ddrescue[2], but it can't hurt adding a couple
of them to the man page.

Suggestion 3: Include the unzip instructions on the ddrescue web site,
perhaps under the Download heading.

Suggestion 4: Consider including a gzip version of the ddrescue files on
the web site to be downloaded so as to avoid people having to fiddle
with lzip if they do not have the skills.
If they do not have the skills, maybe it is best for them to install a
precompiled version. After all, tar is way more difficult to use than lzip:
