LS not showing direcory entries

When I use ls with the -d option it just displays ".".
For expamle:
address@hidden root]# ls -lda
output:
drwxr-x--- 79 root root 8192 May 15 13:21 .
address@hidden root]#
My system is a linux RedHat 7.2 with the latest glibc.
