URL: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?47801> Summary: Feature Request: a switch for escaping unprintable and zero-width chars Project: GNU gettext Submitted by: None Submitted on: Thu 28 Apr 2016 08:14:16 PM UTC Category: None Severity: 3 - Normal Item Group: None Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any _______________________________________________________ Details: GNOME uses some soft hyphens in their msgids to workaround some line-breaking issues. Unfortunately, these characters are invisible in Unicode-conforming editors without a `msgcat -E` pass. It would be great to see gettext adding escapes for specific unprintable/zero-width chars. (A switch that takes char ranges can be even better customizable-wise... Just saying.)
