The documentation for sysfile_variable.name includes:

 ...subsequent characters may also be octothorpes (#), dollar signs ($),
underscores (_), or full stops (.)...

should read:

 ...subsequent characters may also be digits, octothorpes (#), dollar signs
($), underscores (_), or full stops (.)...
