Follow-up Comment #2, bug #17964 (project pspp):
Some experimentation shows that, for batch syntax input, a + in column 1 is
always interpreted as the start of a new command, not as string continuation.
A + in a later column can continue a string.
For interactive syntax, a + in column 1 has no special significance, so it
can be used for string continuation.
