This warning should be harmless.  Is there any other malfunction
for reading this file?

If the warning bothers you, you can upgrade to a more recent PSPP
snapshot, for example the one at 
        ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/pspp/pspp-2007.10.02.tar.gz
This version of PSPP will not issue the warning, and it is
improved in many other ways as well.
